There has never been a better time for international business in the Caribbean than now. Thanks to technological innovations we can now connect to global markets from virtually anywhere in the world, be it by cell phone or through the Internet. And who would not rather be doing business in close proximity to tempting beaches and year round welcoming ocean?
Curaçao, a tropical Dutch Caribbean Island and a melting pot in the truest sense of the word, is the venue for this edition of Vacation Expo Curaçao. More than 50 ethnic groups and nationalities call this island home. Willemstad, the islands capital, originated in the 16th century and is blessed with so much colorful and unique architecture that UNESCO has designated the entire city as a world heritage site. The local language is Papiamento, the official language Dutch, but almost everybody speaks English, as well as Spanish.

Curaçao has been known as the island for business in the Caribbean since Alonso de Ojeda, a lieutenant of Columbus, first discovered it in 1499. The Spanish wasted no time creating a center for trade in hides and other commodities. Then in 1634 the island was captured by the Dutch, the premier traders and financiers of the world. They were also quick to recognize the island’s potential as a center of trade between the Old and New Worlds.
Since its discovery 500 years ago, Curaçao has been a vital trading post in the Caribbean. Having been more of an island of business than leisure in the past, Curaçao is fast becoming a popular destination for vacation and leisure purposes. Boasting many secluded sandy beaches, crystal clear aquamarine waters, year round good weather and a vibrant night life, the island has a lot to offer to visitors from all parts of the world.
Curaçao is the largest of the five islands of the Netherlands Antilles and lies in the Caribbean sea just 60 km off the Venezuelan coast. As part of the Dutch kingdom the island has played an important role as a safe haven for refugees from all over the world. Curaçao boasts a vibrant Lebanese community and is proud to host Vacation Expo Curaçao 2007.
Since that time, the island has attracted waves of traders form abroad, creating its present-day cosmopolitan flair. South Americans, North Americans, Europeans, Africans. Today’s 130.000 inhabitants are a mix of over 50 nationalities living in harmony under a stable, parliamentary government within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Today Curaçao is an essential port of call between North and South America. And the World Trade Center Curaçao is fast becoming an equally essential Mecca of Commerce. Of all the Caribbean islands Curaçao offers the best of all worlds.
